Hundred Years of Batut and the HEART Workshop in Belgrade

The HEART project interactive workshop, conducted by the European Health Management Association (EHMA) in October, marked a significant event as part of the 100th anniversary celebrations of the Batut Institute in Belgrade. This workshop focused on the vital themes of citizen participation and the motivators that encourage public engagement with blue-green urban spaces—areas that integrate water features and greenery within urban settings. The event brought together a diverse group of stakeholders, including public health experts, local government representatives, students and community members, all united by a shared interest in enhancing urban livability through effective use of these spaces.

During the workshop, participants engaged in dynamic discussions and interactive activities that explored the various factors influencing citizens’ motivations to visit blue-green spaces. Key motivators identified included accessibility, safety, and the availability of recreational activities. The importance of community involvement in the design and maintenance of these spaces was emphasized, highlighting how local input can enhance their appeal and functionality. Participants shared best practices from different cities, showcasing successful initiatives that have fostered greater public engagement with urban nature.
